What a Uni Insider does

Honest conversations, not tutoring

As a Uni Insider, you have friendly 30-minute video conversations with sixth formers who are deciding what to study. You tell them what your course and university are really like: the workload, the people, placements, accommodation, the good and the bad.

This isn't tutoring, admissions coaching or promoting your university. We're independent, and honesty is the whole point.

What you get from being a Uni Insider

Being a Uni Insider is paid, but pay is not the main reason to do it. Sessions are occasional. What you get every time is the chance to give a sixth former the honest picture you wish you'd had, and experience you can talk about in any interview.

Pay

How you're paid

£12 per completed 30-minute sessionWorkshops are paid separately when they come up.
Paid via StripeYou connect a Stripe account during setup and payments go straight to your bank.
Usually within 14 daysPayments always arrive within 30 days of your session.
Self-employedYou're paid per session as a self-employed Uni Insider, not employed by Already Doing It, so you're responsible for your own tax.

We're a growing platform, and how often you're booked depends a lot on your course and university. Sessions are occasional rather than regular.

Being a Uni Insider suits you if you want flexible, meaningful experience alongside your studies or work. It isn't the right fit if you need a steady income.

Eligibility

Who can apply

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Currently studying for a degree at a UK university, or graduated from one within the last 5 years. If you graduated more than 5 years ago, you can apply if you now work in the field of that degree. Diplomas and other non-degree courses aren't eligible.
  • The right to work in the UK on a self-employed basis. A Student visa doesn't permit self-employment.
  • Able to stay on the platform for at least 12 months
  • Friendly, reliable and confident on video, and able to respond to booking requests within 24 hours
  • A laptop or desktop with a webcam, a Google account and a UK mobile number

How to apply

Apply online (about 10 minutes)Tell us about your course and university. The form works best in Google Chrome.

Record a 60-second intro videoSet the link to "anyone with the link can view", then check it opens in a private browser window before you submit.

Verify your identityA quick check with your passport or driving licence.

Complete our training and safeguarding courseOnline, at your own pace.

Pass a short setup checkShow us your screen is set up as shown in the training.

Connect Stripe and Google Calendar, and add your mobile numberThen you're live and students can book you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How often will I get bookings?

It varies a lot by course and university, and we're still growing, so sessions are occasional. When a student books you, you'll get a text and an email so it's easy to accept.

Is this a job?

No. It is a paid role you do alongside your studies or work, not a job or a regular income. Uni Insiders are self-employed and paid per session. You're not employed by Already Doing It, and you choose which bookings to accept.

Can I take a break?

Yes. You can pause new bookings from your Hub at any time, for exams or a busy term, and switch back on when you're ready. Sessions you have already accepted still go ahead.

What is a Founding Insider?

Every Uni Insider who is live on 31 December 2026 becomes a Founding Insider, and keeps that status for good. Applying is not enough: you need to finish your training and go live by that date.

Can you give me a reference?

As Uni Insiders aren't employees, we can't give employment or character references. We can confirm your registration, training and any sessions you've delivered. Employers can contact hello@alreadydoingit.co.uk.

Can I apply if I've graduated?

Yes, if you completed a degree at a UK university within the last 5 years. If it was longer ago, you can still apply if you now work in the field of that degree.

I'm stuck on my application. What should I do?

Try Google Chrome first. If you're still stuck, email hello@alreadydoingit.co.uk with a description of the error.
