General FAQs
What is Already Doing It?

Already Doing It is a platform that connects prospective students and those considering further education with current students and recent graduates. Our Uni Insiders provide honest, firsthand insights to help you make informed decisions about courses, universities, and career paths.

Who can book a session?

Sessions can be booked by anyone aged 16 or older. Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the beginning of the session. Bookings for anyone under 16 are not accepted.

Who are the Uni Insiders?

Our Uni Insiders are current students and recent graduates with real, firsthand experience of the courses and universities they talk about. They come in a few kinds:

  • Undergraduate Insiders: currently studying their degree, ideal for insight into day-to-day student life, course content, and what a subject is really like at a specific university.
  • Graduate Insiders: have completed their degree and can offer hindsight on outcomes, employability, and what they wish they had known earlier.
  • Postgraduate Insiders: studying a postgraduate qualification such as a Master's or PhD, helpful if you are considering postgraduate study or academic progression.

Apprenticeship Insiders are coming soon.

Every Uni Insider is identity verified and completes a mandatory safeguarding assessment, and must follow our platform rules so that every session is safe and helpful.

Insider categories reflect verified information at the time of review and are updated periodically. Some Undergraduate Insiders may have completed their studies within the current academic year.

How do the sessions work?

Insider sessions are online via Google Meet and last 30 minutes (unless otherwise stated). The session is led by your questions, with the Uni Insider using a prepared slideshow to guide the discussion. Uni Insiders are trained to ensure every session is informative, honest, and safe.

Who can I contact for help?

For any questions not answered here, please email: hello@alreadydoingit.co.uk

What happens after my session?

You will be invited to complete a two-minute reflection. It unlocks your Session Snapshot, a one-page summary of the conversation in your own words that you can keep and revisit whenever you are making your decisions.

Who can see my answers?

A university or school only ever sees answers anonymised and grouped together, never your name. We never show any figure based on fewer than 6 students, so no answer can ever be traced back to you.

Can I ask for my data to be deleted?

Yes, at any time. Visit our Delete My Data page, enter your email address, and follow the secure link we send you. Your personal details are removed while grouped, anonymous statistics stay accurate.

Booking & Scheduling FAQs
How do I book a session?

Booking works on a request-and-confirm basis. You ask a Uni Insider for a specific time, and they accept it, decline it, or offer you a few alternatives. Your session is confirmed once a time is agreed.

  1. On a Uni Insider's page you will see the times they are free. Choose one and send it as a request, with a short note about what you would like to talk about. This is also where you pay, or apply your access code if your session is funded or discounted. Your chosen time is then held for you, so no one else can take it while your Insider decides.
  2. Your Uni Insider then does one of three things: accepts your time, so the session is confirmed straight away; declines it, which closes the request and frees you to book again; or offers up to five alternative times that suit them, sending the request back to you to choose from.
  3. If you were offered alternatives, tap the time that works for you. We re-check your Insider is still free at that moment, so a session is never double-booked.
  4. However the time was agreed, you will both see it as a confirmed upcoming session, with a Google Meet link ready to join at the right time.

Requests do not sit open forever. Your Uni Insider has a set time to respond, and you have a set time to pick from any alternatives offered. If either window passes, the held time is released. For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian must be present at the start of the session.

What types of session are available?

We offer two types of session, and both are the same price:

  • Initial Session: your first conversation with a Uni Insider. The best place to start, ask anything about a course, university, or path you are weighing up.
  • Follow-up Session: a return session, useful once you have had time to reflect or as you get closer to a decision or application.
How far in advance can I book a session?

You can book any slot that is at least 48 hours away. New slots are added regularly as Uni Insiders update their availability, so check back if nothing suits you right now.

How do I access my booked session?

Once your session is confirmed, you will receive an email with your Google Meet link and instructions, and you can also access it from your customer dashboard. Click the link for your session to open Google Meet, and make sure your device is ready with the camera and microphone on.

We recommend joining the meeting on a laptop or desktop for the best experience, rather than a phone or tablet.

For further information on accessing booked sessions please see: How to Access Your Booking.

Can I cancel or reschedule my session?

You can cancel your session yourself, at any time before it starts.

Look for the cancel link in your booking emails. It is in the email confirming your session, and in the earlier email confirming your request was sent. Click it and follow the confirmation. You do not need an account or a password.

If you cancel 24 hours or more before your session, your place is released and any payment is refunded in full. If you used an access code, it becomes available again so you can book another session.

If you cancel less than 24 hours before, your place is still released, but we cannot refund the payment. Your Uni Insider set that time aside and is paid for it.

Once your session has started, the link no longer works. Email us at hello@alreadydoingit.co.uk and we will help.

To move your session to a different time, cancel it and book again. There is no separate reschedule step. As long as you cancel 24 hours or more before, your payment or access code is protected, and you can book any Uni Insider who suits you better.

Cannot find your booking emails? See the next question.

I cannot find the link to my session. What do I do?

Everything you need is in your booking emails, including the link to join your session and the link to cancel it. If you have lost them, you can get them sent again.

Go to Access your session and enter the email address you used to book. If that address has a session with us, we will send your booking details straight back to it.

Then check your junk or spam folder. Emails from us sometimes land there, especially on school email addresses. Look for an email from hello@alreadydoingit.co.uk.

If nothing arrives, the most likely reason is that you booked with a different email address. Many people have a school address and a personal one. Try the other one.

For your privacy, the page always gives the same response whether or not we hold a booking for that address. That means nobody else can use it to find out whether you have a session with us, but it also means it cannot tell you that you have typed the wrong address. So if nothing turns up, try any other address you might have used.

Still stuck? Email us at hello@alreadydoingit.co.uk and we will help.

What if I am late to a session?

If a student is more than 10 minutes late, the Uni Insider may log out and mark the session as a "No Show". Uni Insiders will wait at least 10 minutes to allow for technical difficulties. Sessions are not extended if the student arrives late, and Uni Insiders are not paid extra for extending a session.

What happens if my Uni Insider cancels?

You are not out of pocket. Any payment is refunded in full and any access code is free to use again straight away. You can book another Uni Insider whenever you are ready.

Payments & Refunds FAQs
How much does a session cost?

Pricing depends on your Uni Insider and the session, and the exact cost is shown before you confirm. As a guide, a standard 30-minute session starts at £30.

If you have an access code, the price updates before you pay: a funded code makes the session free, and a discount code reduces it.

How do refunds work?

You are only ever charged once your Uni Insider confirms the session. Until then your card simply has a hold on it, and if your Insider declines or does not respond in time, the hold is released and nothing is taken.

After a session is confirmed:

  • cancel 24 hours or more before and you receive a full refund
  • if your Uni Insider does not attend or the session cannot go ahead for technical reasons, you receive a full refund

Refunds are issued through Stripe and can take up to 10 business days to appear. Where you used an access code, the code is re-issued so you can book again. For more information please read our Refunds & Cancellations Policy.

What if a session is disrupted due to technical issues?

If your Uni Insider loses connection, they will try to rejoin. If the session can't go ahead because of this, use the 'report a problem' link in your booking email, we review it and refund you in full once confirmed.

If you lose connection, your Uni Insider will wait for you, and the session still counts as taking place.

For more information please read our Refunds & Cancellations Policy.

What if my Uni Insider doesn't join the session at all?

If your Uni Insider doesn't join, use the 'report a problem' link in your booking email as soon as the session was due to start. We review every report and refund you in full once confirmed, your Insider is not paid for a session they missed.

Can I use an access code?

Yes. Add your access code when you book and the price updates before you pay. A funded code makes the session free, and a discount code reduces it.

Access codes follow the same refund and cancellation rules as paid bookings, and an eligible refund re-issues your code so you can book again.

Safeguarding FAQs
Is it safe to book a session for someone under 18?

All sessions follow our strict safeguarding policy. Uni Insiders are trained in safeguarding procedures, and bookings are only accepted for students aged 16 and over. For students under 18, a parent or guardian must be present at the start of the session. Sessions for anyone under 16 are not accepted.

How are safeguarding concerns handled?

We have a dedicated safeguarding procedure. Any concerns raised are treated confidentially and investigated promptly. Uni Insiders are trained to act if there are safeguarding concerns during a session. You can also report concerns via our Safeguarding page.

What are the safeguarding rules for sessions?

Safety is our top priority.

  • Users must be at least 16 years old to book a session
  • If a student is 16 or 17, a parent or guardian must be present at the start of the session
  • Sessions with users under 16 are not permitted

Uni Insiders are trained in safeguarding procedures and must stop any session where rules for under-18s are not followed. Any concerns about inappropriate behaviour, breaches of platform rules, or issues involving minors should be reported immediately.

All safeguarding reports are handled confidentially, reviewed promptly, and managed by our Designated Safeguarding Lead, trained to Level 3 Safeguarding Children standard.

For full details, please see our Terms & Conditions.

Are sessions recorded?

No. Sessions are never recorded, by anyone. They are live conversations only. Occasionally a member of the Already Doing It team may join a session to observe for quality and safeguarding, always with the student’s advance permission, and the observer takes no part in the conversation.

Uni Insider FAQs
How do I become a Uni Insider?
Can I cancel a session I've accepted?

Yes, cancel from your Insider Hub and give a reason. The student is automatically refunded in full and their access code is freed straight away. Cancelling often affects your reliability with future bookings, so only cancel when you genuinely can't make it.

How much can I earn as a Uni Insider?

Uni Insiders earn a minimum of £12 per 30-minute session booked, with payment processed through Stripe 14 days after the session, once the refund window has closed. While this role is designed to provide supplementary income, it's a great opportunity to gain experience, help other students, and earn money on a flexible schedule.

From time to time there are other paid opportunities too, such as school workshops. If one comes up that suits you, a member of the team will be in touch.

Please note that earnings may vary and should not be considered a reliable or guaranteed source of income.

What happens if a student does not show up?

Uni Insiders should wait at least 10 minutes. If the student does not join within 10 minutes, the Uni Insider confirms this in their Insider Hub and marks the session as a no-show. Uni Insiders are still paid for the session.

What if I experience technical issues during a session?

Rejoin as soon as you can. If the session can't go ahead because of this, the student can use the 'report a problem' link in their booking email. We review every report, and where a refund is due you are not paid for that session.

When do I get paid, and what happens if a session is cancelled or refunded?

Payouts are processed through Stripe 14 days after your session has taken place, once the refund window has closed.

You are paid when a session is completed, and also when a student cancels at short notice (less than 24 hours before the session) or does not show up.

You are not paid if the student cancels with 24 hours or more notice, or if you cancel or decline the session.

In exceptional circumstances, such as serious breaches of platform rules, safeguarding concerns, or confirmed misconduct, we reserve the right to recover refunded amounts from a Uni Insider's account, even after a payout has been processed.

All Stripe processing fees for refunds are covered by us.

For full details, see our Refunds & Cancellations Policy.
